Presents the Orlan-10E versatile unmanned aircraft system

The Orlan-10E has become one of the first Russian modern tactical unmanned aircraft systems to successfully undergo all tests with the Russian Ministry of Defence and enter service with the Russian Land Forces and airborne troops. The system has proven its reliability and effectiveness during numerous operations in various weather conditions. The mobile version of the Orlan-10E system can be mounted on virtually all types of vehicles (at the customer’s choice) and includes two to four unmanned aircraft, ground control terminal featuring integrated training capabilities, and a remote antenna. A man-portable version of the system includes up to two unmanned aircraft.

The military can use Orlan-10E to accomplish a wide range of missions including reconnaissance, target  detection, fire adjustment, communications, military convoy escorts, etc. It is effective for protection of borders, water areas, military bases and airfields. Thanks to its ability to monitor up to 500 sq km area at a time, Orlan-10E can also be used in law enforcement activities, emergency situations and other circumstances, where monitoring of large areas is required.

The standard version of the system includes a set of payloads, namely daylight photo and video cameras and a thermal imaging camera for nighttime imaging. Modular design of the unmanned aircraft ensures quick payload swapping during various missions as well as quick inspection and repairs of equipment by replacing various modules. The design also simplifies further upgrading of the system.

Onboard equipment ensures catapult launching, preset en-route flight, parachute landing, in-flight transition to the manual control mode and automatic arrival of the aircraft at the start point in case of signal loss. The system provides high-precision automatic determination of object coordinates, their electronic mapping and transfer to the ground control terminal thus increasing significantly its ability to control the activities of various military units.

The system’s designers focused on the encryption capability and jamming resistance of control and information transmission channels, which is vitally important when the enemy uses up-to-date electronic warfare assets. Easy-to-operate automatic unmanned aircraft and fool-proof capability of the system reduce specialist training time and decrease the operator load and aircraft loss probability caused by human factor.

The Orlan-10E unmanned aircraft system is one of the most intensively used in the Russian Armed Forces. A number of effective operator training and combat application methods have been developed since the adoption of the system. Therefore, foreign customers receive both high-quality up-to-date unmanned aircraft and highly-skilled specialists having completed Rosoboronexport’s most advanced training programs. •
